9 Lessons in Leadership from Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock

Sai spark, but it works.
Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock in Star Trek , are opposites that attract. Acting together, show opposites which together provide a great example of leadership. The first, emotional, fearless, resourceful, intempestuoso. The second, logical, rational, moderate, follower of standards, not temperamental. This relationship centers one of the most popular sitcoms in history and also the hit movie of the season, ably directed po JJ Abrams , a creator of Lost .
In the film, there are some very interesting lessons in leadership:
Be bold. Question the rules. Jim Kirk made a change in the software simulation of the piloting of ships in Starfleet. With this, has passed the test to be captain. The friend has not condemned Spock and Kirk was placed under observation. This same behavior, to seek a system failure, that Spock used later to help save the Enterprise. How many opportunities you can find in your business to change something that prevents them from achieving a better result?
Be prepared even if they say you're not. Kirk proposed to take the exam to be captain in three years instead of four. How was displiscente, failed the tests and was not appointed to the position. But without doubt, was the most complete for the position. By the contingencies of war, eventually assuming the position and its way of seeing things made with the Federation succeed in this endeavor. Dress formally the role even when you do not have it.
Be attentive to detail. Kirk was only to realize that the Romulans were planning a trap. This is because a small detail in the observed signals from enemies. Pursues this vision refined and responsive to market signals. You can anticipate some movement and leverage your company per year.
Provoke emotions. Code Starfleet determines that someone emotionally distraught to resign as commander, because of the danger of making wrong decisions. Kirk provoked Spock to go to the extreme of emotions in order to give the command and then allow someone else to dominate the situation lucid. Tease and prepare your team to master emotions and to know how to identify when they are not able to control a situation.
Exercise compassion. About to destroy an enemy, Kirk offered compassion to him. You do this when you realize that will dominate a market, overpowering a competitor. Usually, the loser ends up as the most faithful ally.
The best in their places. Enterprise is composed of a dream team. Only the best occupy positions and all have responsibility. Know what to do and propose solutions. The captain did not know all the answers, but know who to ask. Try to have these attitudes in your company.
Put logic aside, do what is right. Often, logic tells us to do something, but intuition tells you to do another. Many big decisions out of these moments. Invariably, the question occurs, but always assess the damage can be easily reversed if fail.
Boldly go where never was. It is in the limit that you can explore a new frontier never before thought to your business. Frequent groups different than their own. Participate in events that are not only of his metier. Perhaps you can find inspiration and establishes a new paradigm?
Allow yourself to enjoy. Spock is a race, the Vulcans, who does not express emotions. Interestingly, it is he who ends up with the girl and not the seductive Kirk. But that only happened because he allowed into his logical and rational world. Despite the situation of war, he surrendered. Learn how to do that too.
Oh, and you must have wondered why 9 and not 10. It is I like the number 9.
Medical pioneer catheterization is required to leave cardiology
I do not know if you have realized, but every time some cutting-edge releases a new idea, just offering resistance. It's like we have an unconscious desire to avoid change. In some cases, we condemn the discoverer of the new paradigm to ostracism. Sometimes, actually ended up with a person's life.
Read this if told by my friend DeRose about the creator of the German physician catheterization:
Werner Forssman, was born in Berlin on August 20, 1904. He graduated in medicine in 1928. He developed a theory that no one would accept: that would be possible to introduce a probe intravenously and bring it to the inside of the heart without killing the patient. Obviously could not use corpses, since they were already dead. Tried the authorization of his superiors at the hospital to carry out experiments on a patient. Of course that was not authorized. So can not use human subjects, used his own body.
He cut a vein in the arm and introduced a catheter (a catheter is the correct pronunciation and not catheter) and was pushing him until he reached the national heart. To prove that he had achieved and that this procedure did not kill the patient, went to the x-ray room and, over the protests of his colleagues, took a picture. It was undeniable! Nobody could question his discovery that would save many lives worldwide. His reward? It was so punished, criticized and attacked what he had to abandon cardiology!
For over two decades was not invited to anything and if he dared to attend a congress had to suffer the embarrassment of being appointed by his peers as an undesirable. After 25 years of humiliation and exclusion, finally, recognition. In 1956, he received the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
Luckily, he was recognized with the award. But imagine how much strength of will and determination he must have had to endure 25 years of exclusion? Did we would have the courage to maintain the belief in such a case?
Think of this as a vaccine. If you are an innovator, a creator, a person who establishes new paradigms, you are absolutely sure that it will face much resistance. To face this fact, develop courage.
